Taste of Asia Early History

The culinary traditions of Asia are diverse, with styles ranging from East Asian to West Asian. Each region has its own unique cooking approach, influenced by its cultural practices and customs. Asia has a rich variety of cuisines, each reflecting its unique beliefs, cooking methods, and ingredients. Its distinctive use of spices and umami flavor is often attributed to fermented foods and meat extracts.

There are several common ingredients in East and Southeast Asian cuisines, including rice, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds, chilies, dried onions, soy, and tofu. Cooking methods popular in these regions include stir-frying, steaming, and deep-frying. Rice is a staple in most Asian cuisines, but different varieties are preferred.

Jasmine rice is popular in Southeast Asia, long-grain rice is popular in China, and short-grain rice is popular in Japan and Korea. Turkey’s cooking techniques include grilling, baking, boiling, and deep frying. Curry is widely enjoyed in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. In Southwest Asia, coconut milk is more common than yogurt in curries in Indochina.
