Upper Crust is a chain of baguette restaurants found mainly in busy commuter locations like train stations and airports. The term “uper crust” originally referred to the aristocracy, as seen in an 1823 sports slang dictionary by Jon Bee (a pseudonym for John Badcock), where it described someone who acts superior to others.
There are branches located at the central railway station in Oslo and at the Elkjøp Megastore in Lørenskog, Norway. Additionally, since September 2008, there are three units in Stockholm, Sweden – two at the central railway station and one at the nearby bus terminal, Cityterminalen. There is also a branch at Gothenburg Central Station and one at Euston Station in London.
The company has begun expanding into shopping centers, such as the new store at Bridgend Designer Outlet in South Wales. They also have branches in various airports, including Cairo Airport, Tromsø Airport, Trondheim Værnes Airport, Oslo Airport Gardermoen, Helsinki Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and Gran Canaria Airport. In the past, there were also locations in Australia, such as Circular Quay.
The first branch opened in 1986 at London Waterloo Station by Travellers Fare, the catering division of British Rail. The chain is now owned by SSP.
